INTRODUCTION

People always ask me did I go to dance school or did I start dancing when I was younger but for me I was a later started but over the years of practicing and training in various forms of dance Ive taught in front of hundreds of people at dance congresses and performed on stage in front of thousands of people and met some amazing people from across the world in two very different dance industries. There have been some amazing times and some bad times but I love sharing my passion with others so this page answers some questions about how I got into dancing

How did you first get into dancing?

My first experience of dance has got to be in the 80's when Michael Jacksons released the Thriller video and album and like so many people was inspired by the creativity and choreography and the talent. I can remember being 16 and turning the school disco with tight black trousers (totally non cool, lol) and a glove that I cut the finger tips off and stuck sequin stars on plus a jacko hat and pretending to be jacko. Sadly back then I had zero coordination and hey guaranteed with my outfit I wasn't that popular with the ladies. So basically when I was younger street dance class weren't really around so I wa more the social dancer.

My next experience of dancing was 21 when I first went to a massive dance day where you try out various dances and had such an awesome time trying out line dancing, tango, salsa lindy hop and other dances and back then line dancing was all the rage so the following week I started going to this massive line dance class with the girlfriend at the time who was a professional dancer. ...mind you things between us always use to be a competition of who could turn better or dance better, lol ... So really my first experience of classes was line dancing............how things change over the years.

How long did you line dance for?

I think i spent about 1 months on the line dancing scene and even got through to the British Championship Semi finals but like alot of dance scenes i've experienced things change and the atmosphere changes and so you move on to new challenges.

So how did you get into Salsa dancing?

I think it was 1997 when I first experienced salsa dancing after I attented a 3 hr dance workshop on salsa I went to see a Salsa band at the Hawth theatre in Crawley and as you do when your young I though hey ive done my 3hr workshop Ic an dance salsa.............. WRONGGG... I got there and there was these two latin looking guys dancing with all these ladies who looked amazing. It turned out that these two guys were the Marcel Brothers (Richard and Paul who later on in my dance career would teach for) who taught in the local area and since I was up fro new challenge signed up to their classes the following week. So after maybe 3 months of going to one class a week I was dancing across the salsa world in the south east 5 evenings a week....Crazy times. My theory is practice makes perfect for sure plus hey the salsa scene has always ahd a friendly atmosphere even though a little to gossipy in some places.
